Track Presentations
The following sessions run on Saturday, September 18th:
Finding your Ancestral Roots in Canada with Jacqueline Kanyuck, AG: Are you trying to research in Canada? This class will introduce a brief history of Canada and its provinces, show key records for research, and teach how to find these records from your home as you begin your ancestral hunt.
Native American Tribal Genealogy with Rick Fogarty: Native American genealogy has a complex history that stems from many misconceptions about the records, why and how they were created, and what information can be found. With over 500 tribes in the United States, it is difficult to use the same research approach for all tribes. This presentation will help to highlight the contrasts and comparisons in the research of different tribes and provide practical research approaches to aid genealogists of all skill levels.
Researching African American Ancestors Who Came Out Of Slavery with LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, JD, LLM, CG, CGL: The universal application of relevant genealogy standards will be illustrated in the context of sources and strategies relevant to enslaved African-American ancestors.
Dispensado por el Obispo: Affinity, Consanguinity, and Other Marriage Complications with Debbie Gurtler, AG: Third degree of consanguinity. What does that mean? This presentation will explore the various impediments to marriage in the Catholic Church in Spain and Latin America and the documents that were created allowing the marriage to take place.
